Wallaby Refuge on Magnetic Island was established in 2010 to care for wallaby joeys. A place fully supplied with necessary essentials from equipment to food, etc. run by carers specialised in the care and raising of wallaby joeys.
Through the activities of rescue, rehabilitate, raise and release our joeys return to a world that is ‘Wild and Free’.
With Magnetic Island having a copious amount and variety of wildlife it is a natural move to investigate the world of wildlife care on the island. Arriving on Magnetic Island in 2007 I started my journey as a Macropod ( wallaby and kangaroo) Joey carer. After three years of experience and training the Wallaby Refuge on Magnetic Island began in 2010, the first and only facility established specifically for the rescue and care of wallaby joeys.
We acknowledge and respect the rich culture and heritage of the Wulgurukaba People, traditional Owners of Yunbenun (Magnetic Island).
